Why work in the mining industry?
Although
work in the mining industry can be physically demanding, there are a number
of benefits, such as:
- Earning excellent salaries
- Establishing long lasting friendships with workmates on mine sites
- An excellent work schedule that allows for a great deal of time off the mine site
- Being well looked after with quality food and excellent sleeping and living conditions
- Excellent opportunities for promotion and career advancement for hardworking and focused employees
The industry at the moment is very strong and has an annual growth of 9.3% which is phenomenal. It has been estimated that if Australia is to maintain it's current level of production an additional 58000 workers will be needed by 2020.
We are also seeing that with the Australia Federal government spending up large on infrastructure projects (some 84 billion dollars), that mine sites are again now having difficulty recruiting suitable staff to fill roles and Many mining companies are having trouble finding skilled workers and have demanded the government increase quota's of the amount of skilled migrants allowed to be bought into Australia.
The new infrastructure projects are particularly taking up workers with welding, engineering and rigging skills, though there are many other mining roles currently needing to be filled in the industry.
This is all good news for job seekers, especially as demand for Australian minerals from China and other countries is again growing the industry.
At the moment there are shortages of workers who are willing to work in particular in remote areas, which is serving to again increase wage rate across the board.
